Alex rejects Clarence's advances by telling him about he really truly feels about the cold blooded murderer, leading Clarence to make a mistake that will eventually cost him and his crew their shot at leading the town. And something happens in 2014, maybe, we're not entirely sure. Probably something stupid like setting up a bomb in broad daylight in a well populated area, something like that.
